Changing Child Support: What Factors Courts Consider

As outlined by the Colorado Judicial Branch in their guide “Criteria for Changing Child Support”, parents may request a change to a child support order when a substantial and continuing change in circumstances occurs.

Child support is not set in stone. If your financial situation — or the other parent’s — has changed significantly since the court issued the original order, you may be eligible for a modification. A common example is a notable increase or decrease in income, whether due to job loss, promotion, or career change.
